Laela lived a relatively normal life, being skilled with robotics from a young age. Despite her grades not always being the best, her skill with creation and programming of robots and androids was undeniable. She gained a sort of popularity on her home planet of Ceres, eventually earning a spot at Saturgrad Institute of Robotics. Despite her popularity, she didn't have too many close friends in person, preferring to spend most of her time talking with friends online. Her closest friend, Hazel Roule, who lived on the Moon, ended up applying to Saturgrad and getting in as well. Weird things started to happen whenever Hazel was around, things she would play off as coincidence or unrelated to her. Eventually, Hazel chose to tell Laela the truth, that she had been born with magical abilities, but for the past few years, they had been slowly slipping out of her control, and she wasn't sure how long she'd be able to hide it. Unable to stand her best friend so worried and in pain, she spent countless hours researching ways to help, eventually finding an artifact hidden away on Iaepetus, one of Saturn's moons, hoping to stabilize Hazel's magic through it. Incredibly unfortunate luck led to Xgieyan mercenaries arriving at the same time to steal the artifact. A conflict between the two friends and the mercenaries, along with an accidental magical burst from Hazel led to the artifact exploding right near the two friends, which both stabilized Hazel's magic, but also led to Laela gaining magic of her own as well. The sudden magical energy caused both of them to pass out instantly. When Laela woke up, she was in a ship by herself. She managed to use her powers to get out, where she found that she had been taken by the mercenaries to Jupiter, where they were refueling, and she managed to get as far away as possible. However, due to the American's treatment of magic, and her magic being as unstable as Hazel's was, she was hunted down by law enforcement whenever she went to public places, forced to live wherever she could undetected, stealing things to survive and build up the tools in order to find where Hazel was taken. One night in a scrapyard, Laela could detect a brain of a Pioneer that had a strange aura too it. Apparently, this brain had been unknowingly touched, and was sentient, but could not do anything due to it, well, being just a brain. Laela began work on trying to help the android, collecting parts so she could keep having something to work on, as well as someone to help her through the loneliest time in her life. Eventually, she managed to get the android, which she named ARC for Arcane Robotic Companion, to a state of being able to work and communicate with her and others, giving him a few accessories to help her. Due to how often she worked on it, and the instability of her magic, magic slowly leaked into ARC, giving him magical powers as well. Soon after this acquisition, Laela was kidnapped yet again, this time being taken to Xgieya. Another case of bad timing brought pirates on board, and in the ensuing chaos, the ship was fatally damaged. Laela and ARC were the only survivors, soon to be found by the task force sent to investigate the Foundation's involvement in the "Catrandyr Incident". After that, Laela joined the group for another disastrous contract, this time escaping with contact to Rattles. Through it, Laela and her friends were introduced to Llynkhiya and its residents. Especially of note is her patron Viden, with whom she reluctantly cooperates.
